The New Argyle
The preppy print’s cool redux
When you think of argyle, surely images of preps and private schools pop up. The bourgeois print has an age-old reputation for signifying collegiate style, typically seen on sweater vests and socks, but this season is all about tradition with a twist. As seen on the fall runway at Saint Laurent, the diamond print goes grunge in dark colors, with larger patterns and simplified lines. The key to transforming the classic is to wear an argyle item with edgy basics, like a black leather jacket and buckled motorcycle boots. Look to this season’s runway for a little inspiration and channel your inner Sid Vicious.
